- Strong command of the English language.
- Effective engagement with customers, management and staff.

- Able and physically fit to lift and move heavy boxes, and ensure health and safety standards are adhered to.

Advantageous, but not compulsory
- At least 1 year retail experience.
- Knowledge of merchandising standards and the FMCG industry.
- Product and category knowledge.
- Ability to analyse ZMORE reports for ordering and stock taking.
What the first requirement means
The phrase “up to six months” signals a genuinely early-career opening, while one year of retail experience is separately listed as advantageous. Keep those categories distinct: a candidate does not need to claim a full year to meet the core experience wording.
What makes this role different
The Walmer Park vacancy is built around product availability and presentation, but the detail goes beyond arranging shelves. FIFO rotation, sell-by checks, barcode and price accuracy, planogram compliance and escalation of damaged or missing stock all affect whether merchandise can be sold safely.
How to apply
- Place Matric, exact retail dates, relevant stock or merchandising tasks and your Gqeberha travel arrangement clearly on the first page of your CV.
- Open the official Dis-Chem listing and confirm reference 175106, Walmer Park and the 13 August 2026 deadline.
- Complete the employer form using evidence you can support, and upload only the certificates or records requested on the verified application page.
- Save the submission confirmation and reject any request to pay for processing, placement, uniforms or access to the vacancy.
Decide before you apply
This vacancy may suit someone who enjoys practical shop-floor work, notices dates, labels and gaps, can safely handle stock, communicates courteously and is comfortable following a repeated layout and replenishment routine during retail hours.
The work includes loading, off-loading and moving heavy boxes, not only visual display tasks. Knowledge of FMCG merchandising, product categories and ZMORE reporting can help but appears in the advantageous section rather than the compulsory requirements.
Make your CV specific
Choose an example where you organised products, checked quantities, followed a layout or identified an error. Explain the check you used and what you reported or corrected; coursework, volunteering or brief retail exposure should be labelled accurately.
Relevant proof might include stock counting, FIFO rotation, price-label checking, shelf presentation or helping a customer locate an unavailable item. Describe your own action and the procedure followed without exaggerating responsibility for an entire store.

Questions people ask
Can I apply for the Walmer Park merchandiser job with little experience?
Yes, if you meet the other requirements. The compulsory wording states up to six months of retail experience. One year of retail experience is listed separately as advantageous, so it should not be presented as the minimum.
What does the Dis-Chem merchandiser do?
The role replenishes and rotates stock, checks dates, maintains shelves and promotional displays, follows layouts and planograms, reports shortages or damage, supports stock counts and helps customers with product-availability queries.
Is physical stock handling part of this vacancy?
Yes. The advert states that applicants must be physically fit to lift and move heavy boxes. Duties also include loading, off-loading, unpacking, flattening boxes and maintaining stock in the storeroom and on the shop floor.
Are FMCG knowledge and ZMORE reporting compulsory?
No. FMCG merchandising knowledge, product and category knowledge and the ability to analyse ZMORE reports appear under advantageous qualifications. Applicants should not describe those skills as present unless they can genuinely support the claim.
